Arkham Horror Night

This past weekend we played a game that most of you may never of herd of. Arkham Horror is a complex board game based on the H. P. Lovecraft books. The game is different because it’s not based on a single player or even team approach. This game is a cooperative game of all players against the game. In the game each players draws an investigator who must avoid or fight alien creatures that enter the fiction city of Arkham through gates that spring up throughout the city. Then the player (if they so choose) enter the gates themselves, survive the alien places beyond, return to Arkham, and close the gates. One way to win the game is to close six gates.

This past weekend we had the unfortunate accident of awakening the Ancient One early as we could not close gates fast enough. In the end, Nylarthotep woke up and we were face to face with it. We lost two of our investigators as they were devoured by the Ancient One, but in the end we killed it using a variety of weapons including a few flame throwers and a shotgun and brought sanity back to the sweet little hovel of Arkham.

The game is a long one so if you've got a whole night to devote to a game, give this one a try as it's nothing like any other game you've played. If you want to learn more about the game, watch the attached video of a good explanation of about Arkham Horror.
