Black Label Society - Stillborn
Zakk Wylde formed Black Label Society in 1998. They are a heavy metal band that is driven by pounding drums and Wylde's guitar. It's no wonder that I like them. I happen to come across them purely by luck. I was playing Guitar Hero World Tour, when Zakk comes on stage and challenged me. After several attempt I finally got past the challenge and played the Stillborn song. I had heard the song a few times on the radio and liked it, but never was able to catch what the band was. I would have never posted this if it wasn't for the game... might need to play some more of the game to see what else is in there.
Stillborn features Ozzy Osbourne as a back up singer, with whom Wylde had worked before as the guitarist of his band. Wylde's own vocal style also became quite similar to Osbourne's for this record, and for a while, debate ran over whether or not Osbourne was actually featured in the song.
Stillborn tells the story of a man whose girlfriend treats him so poorly and takes so much advantage of him that his love for her dies, leaving him feeling dead as well. Wylde insists that it is not autobiographical and that if any girl were to treat him like that, he would simply break up with her.
The video was directed by Rob Zombie, featuring his obvious signature style of blue lighting, zombies, and a regular female cameo, Rob Zombie's wife Sheri Moon Zombie. The idea came together while touring together on Ozzfest.
Wylde has performed an acoustic version of Stillborn that is not only longer but also features a much different sound, following an acoustic solo throughout much of song.
Ooooh
Ooooh
Ooooh
Ooooh
Ooooh
Ooooh
Blind me
Erase what was
Stillborn
I have become
The feelings I once felt
Are now dead and gone
I've waited here for you
For so very long
So me
lt me
Just a shell of a man
Stillborn
This I understand
The feelings I once felt
Are now dead and gone
I've waited here for you
For so very long
I've waited here for you
So long
I've waited here for you
For you
(instrumental)
The feelings I once felt
Are now dead and gone
I've waited here for you
For so very long
I've waited her for you
So long
I've waited here for you
So long
I've waited here for you
So long
I've waited here for you
For you

Hmmm. First thing you've put up in a while that really hasn't clicked with me.
Promising, but I find it much to derivative from such groups as Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and the various groups they have spawned. This group seems to have a watered down sound and Ozzy's vocals don't really fit. It leaves me feeling that they could have done much more with it. Do yourself a favor and look up some Alice In Chains if you are not familiar with them
