Nerds vs. Geeks
This weekend was events for both the nerds and geeks of our family. Scratchy had the finals of CYO basketball and also the second AAU tournament. Itchy had the FIRST robotics competition. So here is my recollection of the events…
Scratchy played a team that the team defeated two times earlier in the year. There is a saying that it's difficult to beat a team three times in one season. That saying came to fruition as our team lost. Their coach did a great job scouting our team, as they double teamed our less experience players which lead to turnovers... quick points and the rout was on. On Saturday, the AAU team played three games… lost all of them. At least they learned a few lessons. One, they need to play with way more intensity at the start of the games. Two, they need to box out better, and three, they are playing a much better caliber of players in the AAU tournaments.
Itchy’s team did not get to the finals of this competition. Itchy tried to tell me how the scoring took place, but really… I still don’t have a great grasp of the competition or why some things occurred. Old Cass Tech High is an eyesore. I can’t believe they didn’t tear it down since the new school is up and running. New Cass Tech is a really nice modern school even though it had metal detectors at the doors (I guess that’s a sign of the times). Robotic competitions are a mixture of color and sound. All of the teams have “uniforms” and the place shook as rock music blared through the speakers. There were mascots and an MC that kept the fans entertained between the heats.
In the end both Itchy and Scratchy’s teams did not fare well, but at least they had fun.

Robotics competition? That sounds like fun!
I think you meant Jocks vs. Nerds.
