It bugs me...

It bugs me... that golf, rugby, squash, karate and roller sports are being considered as possible new sports at the 2012 Olympic Games, while softball, baseball and modern pentathlon could be excluded.

Could you see golf going in and baseball being removed... it could happen.

Golf's not even a sport... it's an activity!

In my book the criteria for a sport are:
1. You could pull a groin or bleed while doing it
2. You sweat while doing the sport
3. You need to be fit to do the sport (if I'm in better shape then some of the sport pros then it's not a sport... see John Daly)
4. You can't do the sport and still drink beer or smoke while doing it (see above)
5. There are no judges in sports (referees, umpires, officials... ok, judges... not ok)

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

I went into this video watching with mixed emotions. I like most of the work that Brad Pitt has done in the past (Troy, Ocean's Eleven, Fight Club, Se7en, Legends of the Fall, A River Runs Through It), but I was not a big fan with how the whole Angelina / Jennifer thing played out.

Well anyways, getting back to the movie review… Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a story of a husband and wife who are seeing a therapist because they have problems with their lives. The thing that they don’t know about each other is that they are professional hit men. They work for different agencies and are both sent by their respective agencies to kill the same target. They get into each other’s way and the target escapes. They are both told that they need to “clean up” the mess and both find out that their spouse was the on that got in the way of the assassination. What ensues is that each tries to kill off the other. There are numerous fight scenes and car chases with plenty of humor sprinkled in by Brad, Angelina and Vince Vaughn (Brad’s partner).

Don’t expect this movie to be a classic but it is a good rental with plenty of good action scenes mingled in with some humor and your typical romance angle.

I give it a 7 out of 10.

It bugs me...

It bugs me... has taken an even more personal tone this week.

Our friend the Boxelder Bug has made a resurgent in the house this year in force. This bug is not that big a deal as it is a nuisance bug and does no damage to the house, does not eat anything, and does not bite. Even more ironic is that it can be simply picked up (even though it has wings) and be disposed of.

These bugs eat and reproduce in the summer outdoors on most trees. In the late fall they seek a warm spot to hibernate the winter months. Typically they awake in the early spring and try to make their way to the outdoors so that is the typical time they are seen.

What bugs me this time is that I didn't get a chance to spray the outside of the house this year as well as I have in the past year and I should have made sure that we didn't have any area under the siding that these guys could sneak into the house. I'm sure that is a major reason why we have had a larger then normal amount of these guys out and about.

On a good note, with us killing off so many of them in the winter month, I hope that this spring there will be far fewer of them to kill.

Jeff Foxworthy

Sorry it took so long to get this out but I have not been blogging for a few weeks.

For the last half a dozen or so years, my mother-in-law gave her kids tickets to events as Christmas presents. It allows us to get together one more time as a family during the year. Not like this is an issue for us as we routinely have large gathering that most of the family goes to. We even spend a week together in the summer and go camping. What other family can claim this?In previos years we have been to some shows as Ice Capates, Les Miserables, Lion King, and Stomp. Last year it was brunch at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn. This year we got Jeff Foxworthy tickets at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Jeff Foxworthy is one of the funniest comedians in the country. He is widely known for his redneck jokes and he pokes fun at everyday family interactions. He broke out some new material such as fashion for the everyday person. He was hillerious and I think everyone had a great time. We even went for coffee afterwords to do some more chatting.

This year our pre show dinner consisted of going to Hamtramck to Polonia, which is a traditinal Polish resturant.

It bugs me...

It bugs me... that we have created and mass marketing a device that allows people to travel around their house and community without the use of their legs. Don't get me wrong, if they can't walk and use this device to be an asset to the community, more power to them.

My issue with this is they are tailoring this product to people who only have a difficult time getting around the house. People will use this more and more as a crutch and at some point will not longer be able to walk and will be tied to wheelchairs. Most humans are lazy in nature and will use anything they can to skip out of doing something menial.

How long will it be when we will be just a race of pods that sit on mechanized machines that to all the moving/lifting for us?

It bugs me...

I will try to add a new (It bugs me...) post every week. It is meant to be humorous and slightly insightful. Hope you like it.

It bugs me... that people can get handicapped parking license plates if they are morbidly obese.

I'm sure that someone who's a quadriplegic is real happy pulling up to a store and seeing the overweight person getting out of their car in the last handicapped parking spot. Shouldn't these people have a special spot at the end of the parking lot instead of right next to the store?

Remember the Titans

I just sat down to watch one of my favorite movies of all time...

This is such a great movie on so many different levels. The storyline, filmography, action sequences, music and acting... all first rate. Based on a true story "Remember The Titans" follows the 1971 T.C. Williams High School Titans football team and their struggles with integration. Denzel Washington leads a ensemble cast of strong performances and the relationships between the actors is amazing. The ending of the movie can be seen from a mile away but how can you not root for the Titans. This is an excellent movie that will be enjoyed by everyone in your family.

What is Zotime

Zotime was my nickname when I was young adult.

When there was a party/event, there was showing up fashionably late... and then there was Zotime, which is to show up half an hour late.

I didn't try to do this on purpose, it was just bread into my soul. I could never seem to show up on time for anything. My mom would say that I would show up late for my own funeral. Fortunately for me, I now have a social planner that keeps me on the straight and narrow when it comes to keeping appointments.

Festivus Song

My mother in-law penned the following song to honor Festivus day at out house. It is a sung to "Oh Christmas Tree". Like anything else in life it is a work in progress and I'm sure it will be modified/added to by next years Festivus.

The Festivus Song

Oh Festivus Pole, Oh Festivus Pole
Having fun’s our only goal

Oh Festivus Pole, Oh Festivus Pole
Having fun’s our only goal

Your strength to weight amazes us
That ra-ti-o will make us fuss

Of Festivus, Oh Festivus
A fun day for the rest of us!
