Music Monday - Monster Magnet

Monster Magnet - Spaceball

Monster Magnet is hard rock bancd fro Red Bank, New Jersey. The group was founded by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), John McBain (guitar), Tom Diello (drums), and Tim Cronin (vocals and bass).

The band first went under the name "Dog of Mystery" and later "Airport 75" before finally settling on "Monster Magnet," taken from the name of a 1960s toy made by Wham O, which Wyndorf liked when he was a child.

I've been stuffed in your pocket for the last hundred days
When I don't get my bath I take it out on the slaves
So grease up your baby for the ball on the hill
Polish them rockets now, and swallow those pills
And say oh --- Space Lord Mothermother

There's a car in the field now in a column of flame
With two doors to choose but only one bears your name
You been drinking my blood
while I been lickin' your wounds
Well I'll shave off the pitch now
and the scope of your tune
You'll sing oh --- Space Lord Mothermother

I left my throne a million miles away
I drink from your tit and sing the blues every day
Give me the strength to split the world in two now yeah,
I ate all the rest and now I've gotta eat you

Milking my nightmares and using my name
You're stabbing my cortex when you know I'm insane
I'm squeezed out in hump-drive and I'm drowning in love
Encompass immortal position above
And say oh --- Space Lord Mothermother

I left my throne a million miles away
I drink from your tit and sing the blues every day
Give me the strength to split the world in two now yeah,
I ate all the rest and now I've gotta eat you

I lost my soul when I fell to earth
My planets call me to the void of my birth
The time has come for me to kill this game
Now open wide and say my name

Space Lord Mothermother

Nerds vs. Geeks

This weekend was events for both the nerds and geeks of our family. Scratchy had the finals of CYO basketball and also the second AAU tournament. Itchy had the FIRST robotics competition. So here is my recollection of the events…

Scratchy played a team that the team defeated two times earlier in the year. There is a saying that it's difficult to beat a team three times in one season. That saying came to fruition as our team lost. Their coach did a great job scouting our team, as they double teamed our less experience players which lead to turnovers... quick points and the rout was on. On Saturday, the AAU team played three games… lost all of them. At least they learned a few lessons. One, they need to play with way more intensity at the start of the games. Two, they need to box out better, and three, they are playing a much better caliber of players in the AAU tournaments.

Itchy’s team did not get to the finals of this competition. Itchy tried to tell me how the scoring took place, but really… I still don’t have a great grasp of the competition or why some things occurred. Old Cass Tech High is an eyesore. I can’t believe they didn’t tear it down since the new school is up and running. New Cass Tech is a really nice modern school even though it had metal detectors at the doors (I guess that’s a sign of the times). Robotic competitions are a mixture of color and sound. All of the teams have “uniforms” and the place shook as rock music blared through the speakers. There were mascots and an MC that kept the fans entertained between the heats.

In the end both Itchy and Scratchy’s teams did not fare well, but at least they had fun.

Music Monday - Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire

Kings of Leon are a Grammy Award-winning rock band from Nashville. The band is made up of three brothers – Caleb (lead singer), Nathan (drums), Jared Followill (bass guitar) and their first cousin Matthew Followill (lead guitar). They are all known by their middle names. They could have used Followill as their name, but the group's name is derived from Nathan, Caleb and Jared's father and grandfather, both of whom are named Leon

The band's sound is a mixture of rock and alternative. I think the band is about to breakout with their last album, but the band is relatively unknown in the states and the band is far more popular in the UK where most of their record sales are. They have won two Brit Awards and just won song of the year this past month for Use Somebody. I would have used it as my song as I like much more and it has better lyrics, but alas, I could not find a great video of it.

Sex on fire is about... err... you know...

Lay where you're laying
Don't make a sound
I know they're watching
Watching

All the commotion
The killing of pain
Has people talking
Talking

Your
Your sex is on fire

Dark of the alley
The breaking of day
Ahead while I'm driving
I'm driving

Soft lips are open
Them knuckles are pale
Feels like you're dying
Your'e dying

Your
Your sex is on fire
Consumed
With whats to transpire

Hot as a fever
Rattling bones
I could just taste it
Taste it

But it's not forever
But it's just tonight
Oh we're still the greatest
The greatest
The greatest

Your
Your sex is on fire
Your
Your sex is on fire

Consumed
With whats to transpire

Your
Your sex is on fire
Consumed
With whats to transpire

Start of AAU

It's the start of the second season as I like to call it. Just an extension of the basketball season. The thing is that this "half" is much more expensive and time consuming. Today Scratchy has games in Flint all day.

The team is a select team with most of the players having played before. It should be completely different from the CYO team. BTW, they won yesterday putting them in the consolation final. Who would have thought that could have happened, but they played real well.

Music Monday - Breaking Benjamin

Breaking Benjamin - Breath

Breaking Benjamin is an alternative band from Pennsylvania. They have the classic post grunge sound of the early 90's such as Seether, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Hoobastank, and Nickelback.

Formed in 1998 by vocalist Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel, Breaking Benjamin derived their name from an incident when Burnley was covering a Nirvana song during an open mic night at a club when he dropped the microphone, breaking it. The person who owned the microphone came on stage and said, "Thanks to Benjamin for breaking my ******* mic."

This song deals with the classic topic of a relationship gone bad where one person has changed and the other person hates who the first person has become, but at the same time can't let go.

I see nothing in your eyes, and the more I see the less I like.

Is it over yet, in my head?

I know nothing of your kind, and I won't reveal your evil mind.

Is it over yet? I can't win.

So sacrifice yourself, and let me have what's left.
I know that I can find the fire in your eyes.
I'm going all the way, get away, please.

[Chorus:]
You take the breath right out of me.
You left a hole where my heart should be.
You got to fight just to make it through,
'cause I will be the death of you.

This will be all over soon.
Pour salt into the open wound.

Is it over yet? Let me in.

[Bridge]
I'm waiting, I'm praying, realize, start hating.

[Chorus:]
You take the breath right out of me.
You left a hole where my heart should be.
You got to fight just to make it through,
'cause I will be the death of you.

Nate Robinson is Dunk Champion... Really????

Nate Robison was VOTED dunk champion this year... are you kidding me. I mean Nate's got great hops, but he shouldn't of made it to the finals against Howard. Did the audience remember his second dunk? His second dunk I could have done... jumped off of a teammates back and dunked. Wow now that's original. Fernandez and Howard got robbed. Fernandez did a dunk that I have never seen before. Check out his second dunk. He should have made the finals.

I used to remember when the NBA All Star weekend was a great event. The three point shooting, rookie game and capped off by a great dunk contest. Now that was worthy of network TV. Remember these guys... now there are air walkers.
