S. P. I. T. N.

A few weeks back the People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals sent a letter to Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe to change the name of their band.

Why would PETA want to do that???? That’s because Neil and Chris are better known as The Pet Shop Boys.

PETA asked them to change their name to… wait for it…. Rescue Shelter Boys. Really, does PETA have nothing better to do then to bug the bejesus out of us?

Neil and Chris respectfully declined the name change stating that they were "unable to agree" to the request "but nonetheless think (it) raises an issue worth thinking about."

By the way the band came up with the name when they first recorded "West End Girls". They didn’t have a name for their band, so the they chose the name because they had friends who worked at a pet shop in West London known as the "Pet Shop Boys.

Maybe PETA can petition Meatloaf next.... Tofuloaf sounds pretty good don’t you think?

Music Monday - Sugarland

Sugarland - Life in a Northern Town

Yes I know... It's country, but the original was an old school mid 80's alternative band named The Dream Academy. I always liked the original and this version does it justice.

Sugarland is from Atlanta Ga and is composed by Jennifer Nettles (lead vocals) and Kristian Bush (background vocals, lead vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar, harmonica). The duo was founded in 2003 by Bush and Kristen Hall (acoustic guitar, background vocals), and became a trio when Jennifer Nettles was brought in as lead singer. Before joining Sugarland, Nettles fronted the Jennifer Nettles Band, and Hall had achieved success as a solo artist and songwriter.

The Salvation Army band played.
And the children drunk lemonade.
And the morning lasted all day, all day.

And through an open window came,
Like Sinatra in a younger day.
Pushing the town away...

(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma....)
(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma, hey-oh)
Life in a northern town
All of the work shut down
(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma)

He sat on the stony ground.
And he took a cigarette out.
And everyone else came down to listen.

He said in Winter 1963
It felt like the world would freeze,
With John F. Kennedy and the Beatles.

(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma....)
(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma, hey-oh)
Life in a northern town
All of the work shut down
(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma)

As the evening turned to rain
Watch the water run down the drain
As we followed him down to the station.

And though he never would wave goodbye
You could see it written in his eye,
As the train rolled out of sight, bye bye...

(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma....)
(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma, hey-oh)
Life in a northern town
All of the work shut down
(Hey-oh, ma-ma-ma)

Obama Cuts Budget

This past week, President Obama announced to his cabinet to slash 100,000,000 dollars from next year’s budgetary increase.

Yep, they’re going to slash 100 million dollars from next year increase in the budget.

That’s like telling someone that is making $50k that they are going to get a raise next year and then in the middle of it you tell them that you’re not going to give them as much as you thought before. Rally, who out there still gets raises in these times?

I was talking with Norm when we heard this on television I told her that they did this to show the not so learned American public a sign that they are being fiscal responsible and they tighten their belts. Unfortunately the belt that they are tightening is on a morbidly obese individual that is constantly hungry and is sitting at an all you can eat buffet.

What they are doing, is treating all of us like we are idiots.

After raising the budget, this cut to the increase will not impact the government at all. The US budget for next year stands at roughly $3.7 trillion. That’s trillion with a capital T. When you put the cuts in perspective it is a drop in the bucket like many of us know. To put this in perspective… If you were a middle class worker that makes $50k? The cuts on that individual would equate to $1.35. That is just enough money to buy one extra bear at lunch. Of course that may not apply anymore as they raised taxes on that as well.

Big vs. Small

I love little cars like the MG Copper, MB Smart Car or the Honda Fit. They are great cars with a lot to offer. They are well designed and have great fuel consumption considering the amenities that each vehicle offers.

These cars do have a few problems with them that you just can ‘t engineer out. You just can’t fight equations like F = ma … This is really exemplified in a head on collision where the equation is F1 / m1a1 = F2 / m2a2. If the speed of each vehicle is the same then you will get a higher force on the vehicle that has smaller mass.

This has been clearly exemplified on the video below….

So, as you can see if you're going to get into a crash and it involves another car head on the bigger car will almost always perform better then a smaller one... so size does matter.
