David Beckham along with his Spice wife Posh are moving to Beverly Hills of southern California.

Beckham is suited perfectly for LA as he is arguably the second most recognized athlete in the world behind Tiger Woods.

In England, he and his wife are always on the front pages of the tabloids so it shouldn’t be that drastic a change for them.

The last time a soccer (football for you folk on the other side of the pond) player got this much attention in the headlines in the United States occurred last when several major stars (Carlos Alberto, Franz Beckenbauer, Giorgio Chinalia, and Pele) joined the NY Cosmos in the 1970’s.

The Cosmos went on to win several NASL championships and where treated like rock stars everywhere they went. In the late 70’s the New York Cosmos drew on average of 45 to 50,000 spectators to see them play.

This is what the LA Galaxy is banking on with the acquisition of Beckham, and bank on him they did. The Galaxy didn't say exactly what they'll pay him, but speculation is in the neighborhood of $250 million in salary and commercial endorsements over five years. This equates to $1 million a week. That’s not a bad gig just to play soccer, and you thought A-Rod was making a ton.

So they loaded up the Lear jet and moved to Beverly.

Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars.
